Search engine optimization (SEO) can be used by smaller, home-based business to help level the playing field with the "big guys". In fact, if you're using search engine marketing tools, like Google AdWords as part of your Internet marketing strategy and have had some success, you already know which keywords work for your business and which do not. In fact, AdWords failure can eventually result in Pay Per Click success.
Instead of optimizing around the most popularly searched and most competitive keywords your largest competitors focus on, consider optimizing your website for niche keywords for your product or service that are used frequently enough in search to get you some traffic, but which are not nearly as competitive so you can get your site ranked near the top of the search engine results pages.
