Mitigate Global Warming - Work From Home
Saturday December 2, 2006
It's no secret that global warming will result in some sort of climate catastrophe in the not-too-distant future. Scientists and organizations around the world are studying what can be done to mitigate the effects of global warming before it's too late.
According to this opinion piece in the Tallahassee Democrat, on such organization, Co-op America screened out measures that they thought were too dangerous, costly, and slow and focused on those measures that the group felt were safest to implement and most cost-effective. Their plan looks at a group of primary steps that they believe will deliver the "most bang for the buck".
It's not surprising that the second item on the list of steps they claim could reduce emissions by "at least 1 billion tons per year by 2054" is: "Cut back on driving. Decrease car travel for 2 billion 30-mpg cars from 10,000 to 5,000 miles per year, through increased use of mass transit, telecommuting, walking and biking."
So there you have it. Yet another reason to convince your boss that you and others should be allowed to work from home. And, another reason I'm predicting that over the next 20-25 years or so, the growth of work from home jobs and cottage industries - home businesses - will progress at a rate previously unimagined.
I think I speak for the majority when I say that we who are working from home, home schooling our kids, and operating our own home based businesses are frontiers people in many ways. It's quite possible that our work-at-home world will become the predominate lifestyle in the future - out of practicality and necessity, if not merely by choice. How does it feel to be a trailblazer?
