Home Business Idea: Pet Services Businesses

Monday December 4, 2006
If you love animals there's a growing demand for pet services - everything from pet sitting while owners are on vacation to doggy day care, pet grooming, dog walking and other pet-related services as noted in this article Pet Sitting is Thriving. That's why people who have always loved animals are starting small pet-related businesses after working in other jobs.

Baby boomers who are becoming empty nesters are an especially significant portion of the market for pet-related services. Pet-related businesses where services take place at the client's location are best suited for home-based businesses because there's no need to get approval from a homeowner's association or a municipal zoning or planning board to house other people's pets in your home. In other words, business regulations are not as big an obstacle as they would be if you took in pets.

One such service, pet sitting, is one of the world's fastest-growing home-based businesses, according to Pet Sitters International, a North Carolina-based for-profit group that offers liability insurance and bonding services as well as an accreditation program for its members. The added benefit of on site pet sitting is that the pet remains in its own familiar environment. Another potential off site pet related business would be mobile grooming. Pet owners are happy not to have to transport their pet and the pet is happy because it doesn't need to go through the trauma of travel.
