You should not advertise and back companies that expect you to pay for a job or potential business. If I am going to put my money into a business I am going to do that on my own. What a scam. I used to trust the articles on About.

I blogged about this article last night. Normally I agree with your advice, but I find your 10 Business Ideas for Moms stereotypical. Baking cookies? Day care operators? Selling cleaning supplies? Are you assuming we have no other skills. Gotta respectfully disagree with you here.

Best,

Deb

Sarah – I’m not sure what you mean by your first sentence. Can you clarify for me please? If you are referring to the on-page ads, I have no control over them. If you are referring to other specific instances where I’ve personally backed companies that expect you to pay for a job or potential business? On many occasions, I’ve advised my readers to steer clear of them or to decide on their own if the opportunity is worth considering or investing in. Some of my guest writers and people I’ve interviewed may offer such opportunties, but publishing their content or interviewing them doesn’t mean I specifically endorse them, I’m just trying to give you some ideas that maybe you hadn’t thought of before.

Deb – I suspected this would rub some people the wrong way. I believe the examples listed are actual examples of women in active home businesses. In any event, they weren’t meant to be exclusively of interest to women – I even mentioned that some men might like to pursue these businesses as well – and of course, there really are no gender barriers for doing whatever it is you want to do. The alternative would have been to list all of the home business ideas – really too much of a list to deal with.

My intention was to provide some content that would somehow tie into the upcoming Mothers Day holiday and be of potential interest to moms – not to offend anyone.

I often feature women guest writers as I’m all too aware that there are many of you out there who are already working from home or who want to in the future and as a man, I am not the best person to understand what you need or what you are looking for, but your visitorship is very important to me.

What I am happy about is that some of you actually bothered to post a comment. I’ve been here for a over year now and the comments have been few and far between, even when I expressly asked for them. Many bloggers choose to be controversial and “in your face” to get your attention and to attract “link bait” and get heated discussions going. That’s not my style and not at all what was intended here.

I will always value your readership and your opinions.

Thanks to both of you for speaking up.

Randy

There’s nothing like controversy to bring in the masses! (Intentional or not)

I never took your post to be linkbait, and I don’t even believe you intended to stereotype or insult. I do respect your opinion, I just find some of your choices unfortunate.
