Conversion Tip 1: Using Return Policies to Encourage Conversions

Tuesday July 3, 2007
What are your current policies in regard to returning items you sell online? Can you improve them?

Conversion optimization is the process of maximizing your customers' desire to make a purchase or complete some other desired task after visiting your website. It's one thing to generate more traffic to your site. To increase your revenues you need to convince your visitors that making a purchase from you is safe for them and that they'd have no reason to do otherwise. It's all about getting the most of your website traffic to improve your sales or signup rates, whatever your conversion goals may be. Your return policies (or lack of them) may be the perfect place to start to increase the conversion rate of your website visitors.

If you're a newbie to conversion optimization, it's okay to take it slow. Just focus on one tip per week and see where improvements can be made. At the end of the series you'll be in much better shape to start turning clicks into cash register rings! Ka-ching!
