Marketing Your Home Business with a Blog

In case you missed it the first time, my guest Sherri Lonon and I put together a four-part series on blogging for your home business.

The reason that blogs are a popular tool for small and home businesses is that they're inexpensive to start and run, they can be effective in creating buzz for your business and building a customer base, and they allow you to connect directly with your customers so you can get a better feel for what's on their minds.

If you have a home business Web site, a blog is a good search engine optimization tool to have in your arsenal. Search engine spiders love frequently-updated blogs and it's easy for bloggers to stay on topic with fresh content using keywords that you've already targeted for your Web site and linking those keywords from your blog content into relevant pages in your Web site.

Another great benefit to blogging for your home business is that if you don't have a Web site and are too technically challenged to create your own and too financially challenged to pay someone else to do it for you, yet you want an online presence, is that you can build your online business identity with a blog all by itself. It can act as a free Web site for your business all on its own, and the popular blogging platforms all make it easy to set up a blog and write and manage your content - even if you don't know a lick of HTML.
