Accounting and finance software giant Intuit is running a contest in which aspiring home business owners could win $50,000 in start-up money and consulting services to turn their business idea into reality and kiss their boss goodbye.
Intuit provides this description of the contest:
There's no limit to the number of entries you can submit for contest consideration. You can submit your entries using just your first name for privacy reasons, if you like, but you'll need to agree that your story or video can be published at www.IWillJustStart.com, which leads me to wonder what's to prevent someone else from stealing your idea or becoming your competition?
Your video or story needs to include your business idea, what you will resign from in order to run your business, and what you would do with the winnings to get your business started. You can also enter even if you already have a home business, but instead you would need to describe your experience starting your business and what you resigned from in order to do it.
The judging process will narrow the contestants down to semi-finalists and the public will ultimately select the winner from among the 5 semi-finalists (obviously, at that point, your "business secret" will no longer be secret") beginning on January 15th, 2008 through January 30th, 2008. One Grand Prize winner (the one with the most votes) and two First Prize winners (second and third-place vote getters) will be selected. Winners will be announced the week of February 1, 2008.
The Grand Prize winner will receive $40,000 in cash and $10,000 worth of consulting services and services fees for business services. The Two First Prize winners will get $5,000 cash each. Complete contest rules are available at: http://jumpup.intuit.com/justStartRules. Contest registration is free, and you can register online at: http://jumpup.intuit.com/start/.
If you decide to enter - good luck and let me know if you become a finalist!
Intuit provides this description of the contest:

To enter, you'll need to complete an online entry form, and you need to submit either a two-minute video or a story with no more than 250 words along with a photo.
