Word of the Week: Blogging

Wednesday November 26, 2008
In the old days, personal journals were just that - personal, much like a diary. But, with the growth of the Internet, the popularity of blogging has exploded. Yet, believe it or not, there are still plenty of people out there who really don't know what blogging is, let alone how to go about creating a blog of their own.

I have several elderly friends who still enjoy writing letters. I suppose there's something a bit romantic to hand writing and reading handwritten letters or journals. Blogging has provided a means to replace handwritten letters, journals, notes and more with online equivalents that can be distributed around the world without even a stamp. OK, let's not say "replace" - there's still a place for handwritten letters, diaries and journals - don't panic!

The types of blogs - or "Web logs" - that are out there now range from just about everything imaginable - from personal journals and photo albums to travel diaries, video logs and more. Many business are heavily engaged in blogging, and blogs can be great tools to help a business - especially a small home business with very limited funds.

Yes, it's true, you can now share your thoughts, news and ideas all around the world almost instantly through blogging. But blogging is not only great for sharing personal experiences. As I mentioned, it's also a useful tool for promoting a home business online for little or no cost. And, for those who don't have their own business but want to work at home, learning how to blog can also lead to a work at home job for extra income on a part-time basis, or with some experience, a full-time stay at home occupation that can be quite fun. Finally, by having a blog of your own and providing ways it can start earning you money, your blog can be a home business of its own for a cost of nothing more than your time and effort, if you are so inclined.

That's why I've gathered a collection of 5 articles on blogging that includes what you really need to know about blogging for profit, promotion or as a hobby. The blogging collection includes tips on how to create a blog, information on blog templates, how to write postings, how to blog effectively and more.

And oh, by the way - you're reading a blog right now!
