Work from Home - Stockbyte
About.com has announced it is recruiting for freelance writers. This is a new program for work from home freelance writers, whom About.com is referring to as Contributing Writers. Contributing Writers create content for specialized, niche areas of existing GuideSites.

Contributing Writers work from home, virtually, alongside existing About.com Guides, covering specific subtopics. They are responsible for producing at least 12 pieces of content every month; a mix of short and long-form content. Unlike a full About.com Guide, Contributing Writers are not responsible for managing or maintaining a full GuideSite.

About.com Seeks Contributing Freelance Writers to Work from Home in These Areas
Not all GuideSites (such as About Home Business) will be supplemented by Contributing Writers. Although the program is likely to expand in the future, About.com is actively seeking work from home writers on the subtopics indicated for the following GuideSites at this time: Compensation for Work from Home Contributing Writers
In addition to a base payment (guaranteed to be $500 per month for Contributing Writers in their first year, with a minimum of $250 per month thereafter), About.com pays Contributing Writers by measuring page view growth (month-over-month growth in the number of page views for Contributing Writers in their first year, and year-over-year growth in the number of page views thereafter). Additional payment incentives are provided for specific levels of page view growth. Keep in mind that these work from home positions are NOT as employees, but as independent, contract freelance writers.

How to Apply for a Work from Home Contributing Writer Position
Applicants are asked to email a resume and writing sample to contributingwriters@about.com; an auto-responder will provide more information, including and answers to frequently asked questions when you send your application email. Do NOT apply by snail mail, fax or call About.com.

The About.com Recruitment and Training team will evaluate the candidates who apply and be in touch with those of interest in order to prepare them for the at-home training program they will need to complete as an About.com Contributing Writer. Include the following information with your email:
  • The topic for which you are applying in the subject line of your email
  • A very short introduction to yourself (3-4 sentences)
  • Your resume pasted into the body of the email (no attachments will be accepted or opened)
  • A writing sample relevant to the topic to which you are applying also pasted into the body of the email (no attachments will be opened)
Please do not apply more than once for the same topic. Candidates of interest will be contacted. If About.com is interested in learning more about you, you can expect to hear from someone within 2-3 weeks. Not every applicant will get a reply.

Good luck. Perhaps this will be your stepping stone to finally work from home!
