Being an optimist is never a bad thing -- except when determining how much it will cost to start a business. I don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer, but in my experience it is better to plan on the worst and hope for the best when it comes to start-up expenses.
A Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index study found, "Small-business owners spend an average of $10,000 to start their businesses. Seventy-three percent of business owners surveyed primarily funded their businesses with their own personal savings, while 37 percent obtained loans and lines of credit."
