Could You be an Entrepreneur?

Tuesday September 12, 2006
That's the question this San Francisco Chronicle article asks. It's all about examining whether you have the types of personality traits needed to succeed in your own business. If you don't meet all of the requirements, can you structure your home business in such a way, or partner with someone who possesses what you may lack, so that your business can still be a success and you won't be miserable trying to make it on your own?

Let's face it, not all of those who are successful home business operators possessed all of these traits when they started their business. Still, it reminds those who are thinking of starting their own business that personal introspection is important: You don't want the cards stacked against you before you even get out of the gate. If you're lacking in areas you think might be important, you could also consider trying the business out on a part-time basis first, before you put too much reliance on your home business becoming your sole source of income. That way, you can find out if your deficiencies are going to be barriers to your success before you risk too much capital.

I believe there's already too much information out there that seems to discourage people from going out on their own. A positive attitude, a commitment to succeed and lots of hard work can sometimes overcome the odds against an individual's home business success.

Have you had to overcome what others might classify as "personality deficiencies" to make your home business a success? Your comments just might be the motivation someone else needs to be successful.
