About.com Guide to Home Business

After more than 12 years of being a full-time telecommuter, Randy Duermyer has been operating his own full-time home business and helping other small business owners become more successful since 2003.

Experience:

Before becoming an entrepreneur, Randy worked in a number of work-at-home and on site staff positions, including full-time work at home positions spanning more than 15 years. Currently, he provides blogging, copywriting, search marketing and other Website services to small and mid-sized firms on a direct and subcontract freelance basis through his own home business.

Education:

Randy holds a B.A. in Business & Economics from Rutgers University and holds certifications both as a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a certified Webmaster (CIW). He has also completed numerous college and graduate-level courses in search engine marketing, website promotion, eCommerce marketing and online communications. His professional memberships in the International Webmasters' Association (IWA), Search Engine Marketing of New England (SEMNE) and the HTML Writers Guild provide additional ongoing opportunities for learning and networking.

From Randy Duermyer:

I had been very successful working for others and I feel fortunate to have been able to work from home most of that time. The catalyst for starting my own home business came when I was unexpectedly laid off. Although I had dabbled in part-time entrepreneurship before then and had always dreamed of owning my own business, it wasn't until this life-changing event that I had no choice but to support myself full time with a home business. I hope my About Home Business visitors will benefit from my first-hand entrepreneurial and telecommuting experience and that they will share their own experiences and challenges so that everyone can learn from each other as part of this community.
