What Topics Does Your Blog Cover?

Time-Out For Moms caters to women who are strong and capable, but who are just plain worn-out. My mission is to help "moms" of all ages learn how to relax through natural methods, such as meditation, deep breathing, and self-hypnosis. I want to free moms from stress, anxiety disorders, phobias, panic attacks, addictions and negative thought patterns. When a woman feels good about herself, she is a better wife, mother and human being. My goal is to empower women with coping strategies and techniques.

How Did You Set Up Your Blog and Get Started?

My experiences as a professional writer and certified hypnotherapist certainly did not prepare me for the online world. I discovered Internet marketing quite by accident. The Oregon winter of 2009 was the harshest in history. I, literally, could not get my car out of the garage. I was snowed in and loving it. I had just finished writing a children's book and needed a diversion. I happened to find a webinar series on Internet marketing. After the first session, I was hooked. For three solid weeks (12-hour days), I sat glued to my chair as Internet "gurus" exalted the wonders of cyberspace. I was overwhelmed, confused, and completely enthralled. I had to find my own unique niche, but what would it be? The experts proclaimed that to be successful, one had to find one's passion. Mine, clearly, was writing. But to write about writing seemed mind-numbing. Then, I had my "aha" moment. I remembered a time in my life when I was extremely happy and fulfilled; it was when I had my hypnotherapy practice. I was passionate about helping people overcome problems and obstacles. I've counseled hundreds, perhaps thousands, of women over the years. I knew what it was like to raise a child as a single mom. The stress, anxiety, guilt, and exhaustion were all feelings with which I could relate. My daughter and her friends are all working moms; some with husbands, many without. All of these women are trying to be "supermoms," having been told that they can do it all and have it all. But, these women are falling apart. The working moms feel horrible when they leave their kids at daycare, and the stay-at-home moms feel they're wasting their college degrees. A no-win situation for these overachieving, well-meaning, stressed-out women. I decided these women would be my target market. If I could help them, then my vast life and career experience would have been for a higher purpose. Just as self-hypnosis saved me from my own anxiety disorders, I now have a platform from which I can provide articles, techniques, and coping strategies to these undervalued, greatly adored, women known as "moms."

  • Find and follow "experts" in your niche.
  • Learn how to install a blog.
  • Join forums in your niche.
  • Review competitive blogs, leave comments.
  • Ignore too-good-to-be-true offers from marketers.
  • Stay focused and write quality posts frequently.
  • Submit your blog to blog directories (for backlinks).
  • Submit articles to article directories (for traffic).
