What Topics Does Your Blog Cover?
My blog focuses on the various topics that relate to making a living online, from the comfort of working at home. Because I've been an online entrepreneur for many years, with much of that time focused upon being an SEO, I wanted to share what I've learned about marketing a website. I know what it's like to work in a cubicle day in and day out for many, many years, and I know that there are some people who just really *need* to break away from that life. I try to help people who have the desire and the drive to work from home by showing them the various ways it can be done.
How Did You Set Up Your Blog and Get Started?
I'd been blogging about SEO for many years on my SEO Scoop blog, but eventually I realized that I wanted to share more than just my experience with search marketing. People wanted the broader, more all-encompassing aspects of making a living online, so I decided to branch off into a separate blog to make that happen. I've since sold SEO Scoop and am now concentrating all my blogging on the one that I think can help the most people.
Advice
- Start by working part-time, while you still have a 9-5 job. Then you'll be a few steps ahead when you're ready to fly solo.
- Realize that it can take time - even up to a year - to be able to replace the salary you currently earn. Be prepared to deal with that.
- Make a plan, but don't plan too long. At some point, you just have to jump in and get started. The sooner that is, the better.
- It's okay to make mistakes. Just make sure you pocket those learning experiences and move on. Being a solo entrepreneur means you can make decisions quickly, switch gears, and continue on.
