Gainesville, FLA Mayor Studies Telecommuting's Potential
Under the direction and with the full support of Gainesville's mayor, Pegeen Hanrahan, the Gainesville City Commission has created a task force to study the issue of telecommuting in general government and Gainesville Regional Utilities. When fully implemented, employees would be able to use the Internet to connect to city databases and resources, communicate with teleconferencing software and have access to nearly all the resources they would have in a traditional office. "This is definitely something consistent with the overarching mission of the city and the direction we're going," the Mayor said. It's refreshing to see a city that's not stuck in a traditional rut that sees the value that telecommuting can bring to the table. Do you agree?
