Sharon Hamilton and Gail Lock went into business together to begin a new life through Southern Sassy Sisters, a gift basket making business that opened in September, according to this feature in the Bowling Green (KY) Daily News. The two saw opportunity in this home business idea when they researched their local market and found that there was a strong demand for customized gift baskets and no existing businesses in the area that specialized in them.
A year ago, the sisters started working on their business plan and worked out the details. The gift baskets, which range from $5 to around $50, generally carry a specific theme, including: Hot Flashes - a basket that acts as an educational gift about menopause, and includes a book, chocolates and other goodies, and their Blast from the Past, which features old-fashioned candies that are familiar to baby boomers. They even create gift baskets that are centered around pets.
Because they are a local operation only at this point, their business website is just one page of contact information, hosted by Yahoo. As part of their strategy for business growth, Southern Sassy Sisters wants to gain momentum by increasing their profit margins and by developing a corporate clientele. They'd also like to be gift basket agents for florists in their area.
