Home Business Idea: Gourmet Pet Foods

Wednesday April 18, 2007
Considering the recent pet food scare, demand for home-baked gourmet pet foods and treats may just increase dramatically as pet-loving consumers find disappointment with off-the-shelf store pet foods.

Milly Parker discusses her trials and tribulations in starting and growing her Happy Yappers gourmet pet food business she operates in New Zealand in this article on Stuff.

Parker fractured her skull and suffered brain injuries from a car accident she had when she was 21 years old. But a cocker spaniel puppy named Riley came into her life and she decided she wanted to offer something better than commercial-grade dog biscuits for her beloved companion. She began selling her pet food products commercially four years ago by cold-calling on local pet shops, and in the first year she had won 40 clients. As her business has grown she has adapted her kitchen with two commercial ovens and a dough-making machine.

It goes to show you that you never know what life will bring your way and her story is an inspiration, especially for those who are coping with a disability and want to operate their own home-based business.
