Home Business Davids vs. Big Business Goliaths

Wednesday May 16, 2007
Home businesses can often have a tough time competing with the big boys. It's much like the proverbial battle between David and Goliath. However, home-based businesses can do things that will help them compete effectively, as discussed in this post by Carrie Hill on SearchEngineWatch.com.

As an operator of a small house painting company in Colorado with her husband, Hill explains that she and her husband have been challenged by the large painting companies in the area. They noticed that the big boys all seem to have landing pages setup through YellowPages.com but that those landing pages really don't provide much information that would garner the trust of new clients. The big painting concerns also pay for listings in a local contractor directory, which the Hills find prohibitively expensive for the size of their business budget.

To compete, the Hills had to be somewhat creative and use good old-fashioned business sense by focusing on a niche market, guaranteeing their work, offering free estimates, and offering great customer service. All of which are fundamental ideas that allow the small, home-based business Davids of this world to compete with, and sometimes win the war against the well-funded big business Goliaths.

Yes a home business is very hard to get off the ground. A lot of us “newbie’s” if you would like to call it almost have no chance to succeed when we come out of the gate.

If you have to compete with million dollar companies how are you suppose to serve out there right? However I find if you market close to your home, and offer your friendship and good support it goes along way.

Right now I’m in the process of starting my own home business up called Perfect Wealth Formula and I’m having a heck of a time competing with some of the others in the business.
