The massage therapy business has been growing by leaps and bounds in the last decade, tripling in volume. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook, it should grow by an additional 20% through 2016, meaning this home business has strong potential for growth. And, because all in-home massage services are necessarily local in nature, it's work that can't be outsourced to another country.
There are dozens of types of massage that could be offered as part of a home-based business, including deep tissue, acupressure, reflexology and Swedish.
At last count, thirty-three states now recognize the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and a handful more employ relatively stringent regulation of message therapists. And, if you restrict your services to the client's home or office, you shouldn't have to worry about any local or homeowner association restrictions for this business.

That’s good news to hear stats like those. Thanks Randy.
This gets me a little curious. I can see how giving massages at home could be lucrative, but maybe just a little risky for women. I think there are plenty of safer opportunities for working from home.
Kevin:
Both men and women put themselves at some risk when they go to the customer/client’s house to provide services, or even if they provide those services in their own homes.
