7 Affordable or Free Logo Maker Tools

Simple Logo Design For Budget Conscious Business Owners

By , About.com Guide

In previous years, small business owners had two options to finalize their business identity and generate a logo.  They could either spend thousands of dollars to hire a professional designer to create something great and custom or figure out how to design their own.  This resulted in a lot of really horrible and cheap looking logos floating around.  Fortunately for all of us, times have changed and there are now free logo maker tools available to the masses.

Check out these seven great free or affordable online logo maker tools:

1. Logo Maker

Logo Maker offers some of the best and least “clip arty” images available in a free logo maker tool.  Their tool also offers many editing and customization options.  They offer the logo in a web format FREE by generating an HTML code snippet for you to put on your website (they won’t give you an actual low resolution image).  If you want the full high-resolution file, it costs $49.

2. Logo Yes

Logo Yes is a simple-to-use design tool.  It's weakness is in its limited number of illustrations.  However, customization is available via their editing tools to help you generate a logo to your liking.   The cost for these services is $69 for the high-resolution logo which can be used on any type of marketing material.  They also offer a 2-click business card creation based off your logo.  For 250 cards and your logo is around $99.

3. Logo Ease

Logo Ease is a free logo maker tool.  Create the logo and they will give you the high-resolution files with no strings attached.  A word of wanring, the art and images are limited and can feel a bit generic.  To help mitigate this issue you can customize using their editing tools.

4. Free Logo Services

Free Logo Services offers many good-looking font and illustration options, however customization is very limited.  You cannot move images or text around, only change font sizes and colors. To purchase a high-resolution logo it is $39.

5. Cool Text

Cool Text is a very limited service that will render a text-based logo in various fonts or sizes without any illustrations.  Their service is completely FREE.  Options are quite limited and may come off cheap looking if you aren't careful in your selections.

6. Logo Snap

Logo Snap is another site that allows varying degrees of illustration and font-based options.  There is customizable editing.  They offer the logo FREE, but ask for a small donation to keep the site going.  The donation is not required to get a high-resolution logo.

7. Mycroburst

Mycroburst is not a logo maker tool, but rather an online community of designers.  The site allows you to present your needed design product (i.e. logo) and list the amount you would be willing to pay a designer to complete that project (they refer to it as “prize money”). Those designers interested in the project will then submit different draft options for you to consider and then you select the winning designer.  You pay them your prize money (a minimum of $199).  This is a great way to get in touch with many different freelance designers without having to be keyed into the world of creative agencies.  Mycroburst charges a $19 fee to use this service.  Turn around time is typically seven days from start to finish.
