More Information About this Home Business:

From the Entrepreneur

I worked in corporate America as an Administrative Assistant for around 10 years and then started to have children. Most of corporate America is not kind to working mothers. The hours were horrible and daycare was costing me more than I was making. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I started to do some research on the web to see what I could do working from home. I found a Website about Virtual Assistants and became glued to the computer screen reading as much as I could about this profession. I came to realize that I was already doing what virtual assistants do every day in an office. Why not do it from home? I told my husband about it and he took me to an office supply store that night and bought me my desk. My mother-in-law got me a laptop and gave me a used printer she had and then I set up shop in my basement. I called our local telephone company and established a separate phone line for my business. I also came across someone who was designing simple Websites for free to boost her portfolio, so I had her build mine too. I was on the Internet!

As I researched more, I found a website that offered classes on how to be a Virtual Assistant: AssistU (www.assistu.com) and took their 20-week VA course. It was an extremely intense course but I passed and now I am part of their Virtual Assistant community where I can share ideas, ask questions and just be a part of an amazing profession.

After that, I started networking with my local Chamber of Commerce, talked to everyone I know about what I do, and signed up to receive VA requests from prospective clients. I advertised on a Website called Home Based Working Moms (www.hbwm.com). I started receiving inquiries and that’s when the ball started rolling! I currently have 11 active clients.

I am now home for my children. They are so happy and I’m so happy that I can be there for everything that goes on in their lives. This is the best job I’ve ever had and the best part is…I'm the boss!!

From your Guide to Home Business

Like most of us, when Carolyn got the "bug" to start a business she couldn't stop thinking about it and had to read everything she could find to learn more. You could say her home business found her. That's not nearly as unusual as you might think. If something sets you on fire and you just can't get enough, maybe you should just go ahead and do it!
