What Topics Does Your Blog Cover?
In April 2009, I was laid off from a company I had worked at for 16 years. I loved my job, my team, my commute. I knew I was lucky - very lucky. The people who reported to me became my friends. People in other departments were jealous of my department and its closeness. When I was thrown onto the unemployed lines, I doubted whether I could go back into the corporate world. So I decided to write about management instead. I wanted to share my experience with others.
How Did You Set Up Your Blog and Get Started?
I started my first blog in Oct. 2009 - a free WordPress blog. I just wanted to get used to writing content. In late December of 2009, I signed up with a hosting service and acquired a domain name. I then moved my content over to my new site. There were 2 reasons for this:
- I wanted to be able to get some of the wonderful plug-ins out there, which wordpress.com does not allow
- I wanted to be able to put advertising on my site, which wordpress.com's TOS (Terms of Service) does not allow.
Advice
- If you are not looking to monetize your site, or if you simply want to get started blogging quickly and easily, definitely get a free WordPress site. It is pretty easy going. If you run into problems, you can take it to the WP forums or search online with Google. Someone is bound to have the answer.
